Overview

Kentucky Anesthesia Group (KAG) is a provider-owned anesthesia practice in Georgetown, Kentucky, that delivers state-of-the-art anesthesia services to hospitals and ASCs throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. With six facilities, their team is comprised of 6 Anesthesiologists and more than 30 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists dedicated to safety and the best outcome for our patients.

Challenge

In 2003, KAG had the opportunity to contract with three community hospitals in central Kentucky. At that time, the practice was in its infancy and hadn’t yet formed a company, signed payer contracts or employment agreements, or done any of the other necessary items to run an anesthesia
practice successfully. KAG knew they needed a partner to guide them from launch through sustainable practice operations.

KAG chose Knack RCM, to provide revenue cycle management (RCM), practice management, and accounting services.

KAG turned to Knack RCM, to:

  • Set up its anesthesia practice from scratch
  • File all compliance documents with the state
  • Set up optimized RCM processes
“MMI’s, a Knack RCM Company, practice management services have aided us in maintaining our initial hospital relationship for 21 years, more than doubling the number of cases and revenue our practice generates annually.”
Raymond Depa, DO, Anesthesiologist, Kentucky Anesthesia Group

Solution

In setting up RCM, practice management, and accounting services for KAG, Knack provided a comprehensive solution. It submitted filings with the Kentucky Office of the Secretary of State, established hospital, payer, and employment contracts and agreements, managed KAG’s credentialing processes, and assisted in securing the best retirement and employee
benefits plans for KAG.

In addition, Knack set up and optimized processes relating to:

  • Front controls to ensure appropriate charge capture of RCM processes
  • AAPC Certified Professional Coders to review, code, and audit all claimses specifically trained in anesthesia and pain management payment
  • Patient representatives posting, correspondence review, and accounts receivable follow-up

Results

In partnership with Knack, KAG has maintained its initial hospital relationship for 21 years, more than doubling the number of cases and revenue the practice generates annually. Their successful partnership has also resulted in:

150

50%
net collection increase
